Charles “Chuck” E. Burton-Caldwell
“Chuck” was born in Harlem Hospital (Harlem USA) on Feb.1, 1946, He died July 18th 2019 in Orange City FL
· Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Raiford Caldwell, his Birth mother Beulah Burton, and his adopted parents Ester and Charles Caldwell.
· Chuck leaves to mourn his loss, his daughter Simone Caldwell, his step-son Jemez Raiford, 4 Grandchildren, Kaja, Yazmin, Maliah, and Malik, and 1 Great-Grandson Kaizer Malichi -
· Chuck also leaves 4 sisters; Gwendolyn “Gwen” Burton (San Bernardino CA)-, Antoinette “Brandy” Burton- (Palm Springs, CA) Lavern Jenkins (Harold) Atlanta GA)- Lynda Burton (Hempstead, New York) and one brother Vernon J, Burton (Lake Helen, FL)-
· Although Chuck grew up in Harlem, NY, he was also raised in St. Albans Queens, NY. Chuck later moved to Far, Rockaway Queens NY, where he met and married his wife Brenda Raiford. From that union they had one daughter Simone and step-son Jemez Raiford.
· Chuck had many jobs throughout his life time, among them he served as a member of the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1965. He also served in the Air Force Reserve. Chuck continued his life of service as a Police Officer in the New York City Police Dept. Later, Chuck joined the New York City Transit Authority. In 2001, after an injury and illness, Chuck retired from the Transit Authority, where upon he moved to Lake Helen to live with his brother Vernon J. Burton. As a member of the Lake Helen community, Chuck was a member of the Mt. Olive AME Church of Lake Helen. He later moved to Deland FL where he lived until his hospitalization.
· Chuck’s children include his daughter, Simone Caldwell, his step-son Jemez Raiford, 4 grandchildren, Kaja, Yazmin, Malia and Malik and one Great-grandson, Kaizer Malachi
· Charles had a great love for music and used his talented tenor voice as a member of a local Doo-Wop group called “Sea Side.”
· His computer skills were among his many talents, and he spent hours repairing computers and mixing music for friends.
· Chuck was a very private person and although he had many acquaintances, he had a very small group of friends, in that group, chief among them is Ms. Lula Cody of Lake Helen FL, Mr. John Jackson of Deland FL, Ms. Diane Wilshire of Far Rockaway NY. And Ms. Laurie Patricia. The family is eternally grateful to all of them for their selfless acts of friendship.
